The third part of a parenthood education curriculum series intended for use in high school home economics classrooms, this module focuses on parenting today with four major competencies as goals: (1) ability to identify skills that facilitate parenting; (2) ability to describe the application of parenting skills in relation to the age level of the developing child; (3) the ability to identify issues involved in parenting as a result of differences in family composition; and (4) the ability to describe specific situations that influence how individuals parent children in today's society. Presented for each major competency in a double page, four-column format, are supporting subcompetencies, generalizations, learning activities, and suggested resources. Subcompetencies include: child growth and development, guiding behavior, showing love and affection, infancy, preschool years, school age years, adolescence, single parenting, stepparenting, adoptive parenting, school age parenting, special-needs children, child abuse, stress and/or crises, dual-career families, and nutritional practices. Appended are various handouts and assignments. A bibliography lists print and nonprint resources. (DB)
